Unleashing the Rotary Spirit: Exploring the Seven’s Day RX7 Festival at Mobara Twin Ring Circuit

July 7th is a well-known holiday around Japan called Tanabata; however, car enthusiasts lovingly refer to the 7th day of the 7th month as, you guessed it, 7’s day. I’ve been looking forward to spending this day in Japan since I first learned about my trip. The RX7 has been a long-time dream car of mine, and I love rotary engines. This year, the Rotary Spirit Sevens Day event was held at Mobara Twin Circuit, hosting not only RX7s but showcasing any Mazda rotary vehicles.

The RX7, an iconic sports car from Mazda, has become synonymous with the rotary engine. The distinct sound and high-revving nature of these engines have captured the hearts of car enthusiasts around the world and the Seven’s Day Festival is a testament to the enduring popularity of this unique machine and its dedicated community.

Located in the picturesque Chiba Prefecture, Mobara Twin Ring Circuit serves as the perfect backdrop for the festival. Nestled amidst scenic landscapes, the circuit offers an exciting track layout and a rich motorsport heritage. As participants and spectators gather at the course, the atmosphere buzzes with anticipation, united by a shared love for rotary power. My friends Suzuki-san and Kakuta-san both let me know the event was going to be huge and that I shouldn’t miss it, and I’m so glad that I didn’t.

The Seven’s Day RX7 Festival showcases an array of activities and attractions designed to immerse attendees in the world of rotary engines. Enthusiasts proudly display their cherished RX7s, meticulously restored classics, and some insane modified racing machines, creating an awe-inspiring visual spectacle. It was probably the hottest day that I’ve experienced in Japan thus far, but I really couldn’t complain about the gorgeous weather and beautiful shining sun. It was my first time at Mobara, and I have to say, it’s a really cool circuit!

At the heart of the festival lies the exhilarating sessions on the track. Participants had the opportunity to unleash their RX7s and other rotary-powered cars, pushing them to the limit on the Mobara Twin Ring Circuit. The distinctive engine note fills the air as these incredible machines tackle corners and straightaways, providing an auditory treat for spectators. There was both drift and grip, so all participants could showcase what their car was built for.

There were so many great cars there, but I was particularly excited that I got to see the 6-rotor Cosmo. The pink RE Amemiya Greddy FD was also such a spectacle that I’m so grateful to have witnessed. Of course, the infamous N/A Ported Rotary SA22C is one of my favourites too and is always a treat to see.

The Seven’s Day RX7 Festival at Mobara Twin Ring Circuit is a must-visit event for automotive enthusiasts and fans of rotary-powered cars. It offers an unparalleled opportunity to witness the power, passion, and sense of community that surrounds these remarkable machines. Whether you’re a devoted rotary fan or simply curious about the world of Japanese car culture, this festival promises an unforgettable experience that will leave you captivated by the enduring spirit of the rotary engine.

Thank you so much for reading, and hopefully you’re all having a wonderful summer so far!
