The Supra Build Went From Bad To Worse.
Projects like these remind us that the path to perfection is rarely a straight line.
We’re back with another update on Dylan’s Supra, and this time, the focus has shifted to the nitty-gritty of restoration. As many of you know, this project car is transforming, with plans to rebuild the rear quarters entirely in metal, without the original flares. However, as with any project involving a retro car, surprises were inevitable.
When the tear-down began, we were braced for the usual wear and tear that comes with time. What we didn’t expect was the extent of hidden rust lurking beneath the surface. It’s a reality check that many car enthusiasts face: what might appear solid on the outside often hides a story of corrosion and decay underneath.

During the initial phases of prepping the Supra for its new rear quarters, Reid and Sam uncovered rust in critical areas. These weren’t just cosmetic blemishes; they were structural concerns that demanded immediate attention. From the wheel arches to the inner panels, the team discovered spots that had been quietly deteriorating over the years. While it’s a tough pill to swallow, it’s also an opportunity to do things the right way—ensuring that the Supra isn’t just visually stunning but structurally sound as well.

The process isn’t glamorous—it involves meticulous cutting, welding, and fabricating to replace compromised areas with fresh metal. But their expertise and dedication are already making a difference.
Despite the setbacks, there’s a silver lining: the team now has the opportunity to address all the issues thoroughly, ensuring the Supra’s longevity. The decision to go with all-metal rear quarters is already a testament to the quality and craftsmanship that we are committed to.
While it’s easy to feel disheartened by the discovery of rust, this phase of the build is a reminder of why we love these projects in the first place. It’s about the journey as much as the destination. Each obstacle overcome is a step closer to creating something truly remarkable.

With the rust repair underway, the focus will soon shift back to shaping the new rear quarters. Every piece of this build is being approached with precision, from the custom fabrication to the finishing touches. The ultimate goal remains the same: to bring Dylan’s Supra to a level of perfection that surpasses its former glory.
